Okay.  It’s been way to long since I’ve posted here in BTFRE (Basic Training for Real Estate) but I’ve got some exciting news!

Over the past year or so, I’ve received a lot of comments and questions concerning various real estate math topics.  So I decided to take all of this information and begin compiling it into an ebook to help people with various topics in real estate math.  It’s been several months in the making but this past weekend I sent it off to be reviewed and verified (I would be embarrassed to have math errors in a my math book).  So if everything goes as planned I will be launching the book here in a few short weeks!!!

Why add another real estate math book to the market place?

Good question!  So before I began writing this book I looked over several real estate math books to see what additional value I could provide.  What I noticed is that as I went through the books I could tell that an professional instructor wrote the book.  It explained math like I would expect to hear it in a classroom.  So I decided to write it like I was sitting down trying to help a friend understand the math and concepts.  For example, proration seems to be a big tripping point for some people so I broke it down into several components and really focused on getting the reader to understand the concept as well as the steps to get to the correct answer.

Basic Training for Real Estate Math

Below is the chapter and topic list from the book:

Chapter 1, Back to the Basics
Rounding Decimals
Fractions
Percentages
Debits and Credits

Chapter 2, Proration
Practice Questions (This was a big topic on the site so I came up with 20 practice questions to help)

Chapter 3, Financial Math in Real Estate
Interest Rates
Loan to Value Ratio
Debt to Income Ratio
Amortization
Taxes & Insurance in a Mortgage Payment

Chapter 4, Land and Home Measurements
Converting Inches to Decimals
Calculating Shapes and Areas

Chapter 5, Valuation Models
Sales Comparison Approach
Cost Approach
Income Approach

Chapter 6, Calculating Leases
Rent per Square Foot
Percentage Lease
Index Lease

It also has over 75 practice questions that were designed to step you through each math topic and help you learn.  I did not just give you the answers to the practice questions.  I explained how I got the answer to them as well.

How much will this awesome, fantastic and incredible book cost?

Another good question!  Okay, I might have gone a little overboard with the adjectives but I’m a little biased.  The regular price of the book will be $19.95 but I’m toying with an introductory price special for the first 30 days.

If you are interested in the book, please leave a comment and I will make sure to email you once it is available.

Lastly, I would like to say THANK YOU for all of you who visit and read this site.  Thank you all for your support.  I promise to begin posting more regular now that the book is complete so stay tuned!

Blessings,

Travis

  • Happy September 1st Travis! I am so excited about this book you have written because math has never been my best (or most understood) subject. In fact, I keep hesitating to take my exams for licensing because of that exact reason! I don’t want to fail and want to pass on the first try, no matter which math questions I get, but unfortunately, I sometimes find it difficult to understand WHICH formula to use when figuring up amounts etc. For example, why do we have to divide or multiply certain numbers when determining commissions. I keep praying that God will give me the ‘wisdom’ to finally ‘get it’, and now, maybe, this will be such a big help to me and others struggling with that menace called, Math. I’m looking forward to getting your book as soon as you put it out there! May you be blessed for your sincere concern and desire to help others be successful! 🙂

Best regards and blessings to you,
    Sally

    • Hey Sally,
Thank you for opening up about your struggles with math. It’s my hope that this book will help you and others feel less anxious about math in real estate. Please know that I will pray along with you that God takes away your struggles with math.

The book is now set up to pre-order with an Oct 3rd release date (though I’m working to get it out there earlier) and that will save people $5.

      Blessings,

      Travis

  • I want one of you math books, I am so challenged in real estate math that it has stopped me from passing my real estate test in Washington State 2 times. I am a single mother and it is always been my dream to get off of government assistance and provide my daughters with a life they deserve. I hope this book can help me pass my test.
